Tax deduction for energy-efficient buildings and designs
The Internal Revenue Code Section 179D, also known as the Commerical Building Deduction, EPAct or 179D Deduction was enacted to encourage innovative designs and construction methods that produce energy-efficient buildings.
Building owners and leaseholders of newly constructed or renovated energy-efficient buildings; and/or design firms (architects, engineers, contractors, environmental consultants) that help increase energy efficiencies on government-owned buildings, i.e. schools, libraries, and local government buildings, may be eligible to receive the deduction.
